I was talking with someone the other day about what Business Beware was and explaining it all and they thought it was awesome of course. But what they told me was something I hear more often than I thought I would…. “I had no idea I could fire my customer.” Of course you can fire your customer!
In today’s economy we are even more apt to do everything we can for the customers because we need the business. But what about those customers who expect too much for too little? What I mean is, there are some customers who expect a low price because of the economy. This happened just last week with a friends business: The guy (worker) went out to the customers house to give him a bid on an irrigation system. When he first walked up to the home, the customer says “you better give us a cheap price because everyone is looking for work right now.” Really? One I think the guy is an idiot but second that is the kind of customer you don’t want to deal with from the start. Those that show their true colors in the first hour you just need to walk away or up the price on them.
If you have a long standing customer that continues to cause you and your employees trouble then what are you waiting for? Fire them. Be Donald Trump and say “You’re Fired!” Well not exactly like that but you get the idea. Just say that there are plenty of great customers out there and we don’t need your business, thank you. Don’t ever think you can’t fire your customer, it’s your business.
